A little about what I do and how and where I do it.
My work is about words. Yours, mine. After 30-plus years as a professional journalist, I now work as a creative mentor to other writers, helping them break the blocks, start the first sentence or write enough of an unfinished project to get to the words "The End." I motivate and evaluate, but I don't critique. I'm here to help you get the thing done.
From my studio in Dallas, Texas, I've helped stand-up comics, novelists, journalists and playwrights whose plays have been produced and performed in Dallas, New York City, Washington, DC, and at fringe festivals in Edinburgh. Orlando, NYC, Chicago, Hollywood and New Orleans.
In 2011 I started using my knowledge of the ins and outs of print and online media to teach artists, authors and other creative entrepreneurs how to get more media coverage for their projects without spending a dime on public relations. My "Mastering the Media Matrix" workshops offer individuals and groups a look at surefire strategies to form better and more productive relationships with media on all platforms. The press release is dead. We start there.
To date, I've taught Media Matrix workshops six times at the renowned Edinburgh Fringe in Scotland; at Dallas Solo Fest; Irving Arts Center (for a large group that included symphony, opera company and theater marketing directors); and for Dallas Children's Theater's marketing staff, Fun House Theater and Film and many other individual arts groups and artists.
In 2016 I compiled more than 100 of my best tips and tricks in my book, 107 Publicity Boosters That WORK, available in paperback on Amazon US, UK and worldwide. (Latest edition has 30 bonus tips!)
When I'm not writing my own plays, articles and books, I'm usually painting or knitting. In 2017, I knitted and crocheted more than 300 "pussyhats" for anti-Trump resistance marches.
If you need help with a writing project, or if your head needs a political statement on it, I'm your woman.
